GAMES ROOM

The Club House at River Bend Farm is a central entertainment area offering guests a welcoming space to gather and enjoy each other’s company. 

A spacious under cover veranda provides 3 separate seating areas, which can be combined if required, to allow guests to enjoy the beauty of their surrounds during the glorious, warm summer months. 

The lounge features a big-screen TV and built-in bricked fireplace for cozy socialising during the chilly winter months. There is also a small library collection and plenty of board-games for wholesome family / friends entertainment.

Open-plan to the lounge is a fully equipped bar (sorry not stocked), pool table and dartboard for guests to while time away between outdoor activities.

A communal kitchen and dining area allows guests to easily enjoy self-catering options.

OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL

A full sized outdoor swimming pool, situated by our Club House, makes for a wonderful area for guests to cool off after an exhilerating hiking or biking experience or to simply relax, unwind and enjoy soaking up the sunshine to the chirping of our local birdlife during the warm summer months.

The area features comfortable pool side loungers under large outdoor umbrellas seated on lush grass and overlooks our children’s play area making it a great spot for parents to catch up on some reading while still being able to keep an eye on their little ones.

CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA

Younger children get to enjoy the freedom to safely play outdoors under parents’ watchful supervision in a truly “farm life” way in the play area situated just off the Club House. 

With a jungle gym that has climbing ropes, tires, swings and slide, as well as a large trampoline, the area offers plenty of space for youngsters to enjoy the outdoors! 

BIRDING

The River Bend Farm is home to a wide and varied species of birdlife which can readily be heard and seen throughout the property. Birders are encouraged to bring along their books, binoculars and cameras as you could easily spot one of the rarer species during your stay with us.

For avid birders, the nearby Karkloof Conservation Centre, has two world-class waterside bird hides and the potential to see all three Crane species in one expedition. The Midlands offers the chance to cross some rare birds off your list, as well as some of the most reliable locations for the White-Starred Robin, Cape Parrot, and Blue Swallow. You’ll have an impressive list at the end of the day, no matter where you meander in the Midlands Meander.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

River Bend Farm is surrounded by forests with countless roads and tracks to explore. We have not yet had the opportunity of formalising cycling tracks, but hope that some of national biking community take up the opportunity to help us map trails at substantial discounts on our accommodation. We have, however, mapped on Google Earth over 200km of possible trails without touching a formal road.

Make sure your bike fits you well and has been tuned up recently to limit the possibility of mechanical issues out on the trail!

Remember to bring:

  • A well-fitting helmet.
  • Hydration pack.
  • Spare tubes.
  • Tire lever.
  • Tire pump or CO2 cartridge and inflater. …
  • Multi-tool.
  • First Aid Kit

HIKING

For novice hikers or families with younger children, The River Bend Farm has a very easy ±2 km grass-path river walk to a beautiful picnic spot along the river (no hiking equipment required).

Casual hikers can enjoy a brisk walk along our 3km trail which leads around the farm area. 

Experienced hikers are welcome to explore the surrounds along our 5km or 6km loop trails spending time in nature where you are sure to encounter a variety of small wildlife and an abundance of birdlife. If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there are also additional longer and varied trails available around the area.

  • Weather-appropriate clothing 
  • Hiking footwear
  • Plenty of food
  • Plenty of water
  • Navigation tools such as a map and compass
  • First-aid kit
  • Knife or multi-tool
  • Trash bag (please don’t litter!)

FISHING

Lions River, which flows through the heart of River Bend Farm, has a variety of fish species to attract the attention of any avid fisherman who are encouraged to bring their rods and lures on vacation with them!

The most favourite among fishermen is the Catfish, Trout and the Natal Scaly (yellow fish).

River Bend Farm enjoys 850m of river frontage, although our neighbours are very accommodating with fisherfolk fishing on their farms.

Some Species that have been caught in the Lions River:

  • Largemouth Bass
  • Scaly Yellowfish
  • Rainbow Trout
  • Catfish
